Columbia Film Writers

A writers' network for film, television, new media

John Mitchem

How do you Want to Use this Social Network?

We have spent several weeks simply putting the word out about this network and creating content feeds -- industry news, Columbia Film news, interviews with screenwriters etc.

How would this network be helpful to you? Please answer in this forum. Among the suggestions we've received:

--Posting draft writing for comment
--Posting finished treatments/screenplays for marketing purposes
--Videos of staged readings, films in progress, short films
--Industry contact information -- a collaborative rolodex
--Etc. etc.

John, thanks for this as well as everything else.

I'm wondering about camaraderie with us, and if it's as strong as the camaraderie
over at Harvardwood, courtesy of Mia Riverton, like you, John - its' founder.

This is a fabulous resource and opportunity.

Confuses me that no one responds to posts, it's like a ghost town.

We need to be reading one another's work, attendng one another's groups, gettng one
another information.

We owe this to Milos, to Frank and to you, John.

Also to Nick, Samson, Dusan, Milena, Larry, Annette, David Werner, Jenny Beck, all of those
that gave so much to make us what we collectively are.

It's great when people like Simon and others hit, hit big, and hit right away - this is awesome.

But not typical.

We're the most gifted and well-trained group in Hollywood.

We're going to get hot, cool off, get hot again, cool off again - - we're ageless.

I've gone through all of these cycles - have something to contribute - so do a lot of others
here and from C.U.

Look at Nick Proferes, suddenly a 'hot' writer in Los Angeles, and in his sixties.

A professor who's given a TON to a lot of us, I owe Nick a lot.

We all need to send Nick Proferes a card, congratulating him on his well-earned success,
and all of the years he's toiled self-lessly.

He'll get mine by the middle of the month.

This can't just be about who's white-hot at the moment, that passes.

It has to be about what can I do in return for what I've been given.

Hi John,

Sorry I don't come in more often. Posting scripts for comment is a good idea. I'm always looking for good readers. On the other hand I don't have much time to read scripts. It should be fair. I read someone's script. Someone reads mine. Maybe there could be a sort of board where one posts an announcement when he/she wants to make a reading exchange.

Thanks again for your achievement.

All the best,
Yves Lavandier
